Failed concept albums don't traditionally make it onto "Best of" lists, but that's nonetheless the case of The Cool by Lupe Fiasco ($10). While the album misses its mark as a story about three main characters, "the Cool, the Streets, and the Game," it makes up for it with sharp mixing, a decidedly dark tone, and lyrics that openly lambast hip-hop's material culture while painting a vivid portrait of the challenges of living in the 21st century. Standout Tracks: "Superstar," "Little Weapon," "Fighters."
