We had terribly high hopes for Thom Yorke's first solo album. Luckily, the Radiohead mastermind delivered way beyond anything we were expecting with The Eraser ($14; July 11). Some tracks sound exactly like the latest Radiohead albums (thanks to the production by longtime band collaborator Nigel Godrich), while others sound unlike anything we've ever heard come out of Yorke's mouth. Overall, the gritty electronic project is quite spectacular and is sure to end up on everyone's Best of 2006 list. Standout tracks: "Atoms For Peace," "The Eraser" and "Harrowdown Hill."
