The Libertine

Coming off a weekend where we watched Capt. Jack Sparrow once again light up the screen in Dead Man's Chest, we were reminded of just how many people missed out on the best performance of Johnny Depp's career (so far). The Libertine ($15) may not have been a big box-office draw, but it is definitely a film worth watching. It tells the story of John Wilmot, the second Earl of Rochester (1647 - 1680; played by Depp), and his struggles with those around him and with his own self-destructive temptations. The film may not be liked by everyone, but for anyone who has seen the opening monologue, you realize that's just the way Wilmot would have wanted it.
