Remember those ads in the back of comics promoting a Utopian lifestyle of the future? That hasn't quite happened yet, and a new book, Where's My Jetpack?: A Guide to the Amazing Science Fiction Future that Never Arrived ($11), tells us why in a tongue-in-cheek style. Author and roboticist Daniel Wilson reminds us about things like moon colonies and teleportation as he explores which long promised future techs exist and which are still pipe dreams.
Finally, the book that us Achievers have been waiting for. I'm a Lebowski, You're a Lebowski: Life, The Big Lebowski, and What Have You ($11; Aug. 21) is the definitive guide to all things Dude. Put together by the bums who started Lebowski Fest, the book features history, trivia, commentary, a guide to the film's locations, and a foreword by Jeff Bridges, along with tons of photos taken by him on set. The book also includes interviews with nearly every cast member, as well as the real-life folks who inspired the characters in the movie. Plus, there's a section with tips on how to Dude-ify your car, office and home. We've never pre-ordered a book so fast.
You can't be a James Bond fan without being a fan of the lovely Bond girls. Over 50 years of Bond girl history went into Bond Girls Are Forever ($20) by John Cork and Maryam D'Abo. The latter a former Bond girl, the authors study the history of the women who played these roles and how the Bond girl became a self-confident, sexy role model — but don't worry guys, they didn't forget to include pictures.
