Woodcut

Anyone with a phone can go out and take pretty photos of trees. Connecticut-based artist Bryan Nash Gill instead focuses on the natural beauty underneath the bark. Woodcut is a celebration of his best work, creating large-scale relief prints from the cross-sections of fallen or damaged trees. Deceptively simple, the single-hued images capture every ring, knot, and scar, often encompassing decades of growth and wear. Local species including ash, maple, oak, spruce, and willow are represented, as are a collection of printed lumber, offcuts, and scrubs.
