Akerudden Cabin

Set next to a lake in southern Finland, the Akerudden Cabin is a simple home at peace with its surroundings. This sense of harmony comes from its construction, which included seven types of lumber: oil-finished spruce for the main structure, oak batons for the foundation, aspen cladding, and black alder for the walls and ceilings of the interior. A double-height main area houses the kitchen, dining room, and lining room, with terraces and floors made from locally-sourced Oregon pine, while the rest of the house, including the bedrooms, bathrooms, and office, feature surfaces of pine, oak, and larch veneer.
