Logitech Harmony 890 Pro Remote

Logitech Harmony 890 Pro Remote

After five years of faithful service, this Uncrate editor's Bose remote finally died this past week, so we began a frantic search for a universal remote that could handle our myriad home theater devices. The Logitech Harmony 890 Pro Remote ($400) seems like the right fit for our needs. It features easy setup via USB, a macro-driven color menu system, a fully-backlit control pad, and, unlike the Harmony 880 which uses IR signals, the 890 works via RF so we can still change tracks on the Bose from the other room.

  • Sony BDP-S1 Blu-ray Disc Player

In the battle for the next generation DVD format, we're putting our money on Blu-ray. With companies like Sony, Apple, Samsung and Panasonic backing Blu-ray and the whole 25GB vs 15GB thing, there's no way we'd side with HD DVD. At CES in Las Vegas last week, Sony unveiled its first Blu-ray disc player, the BDP-S1 ($TBA). While barely any features are known, the unit will offer 1080p full HD video output and DVD upscaling to 1080p. Look for it, and the first movie titles, around the beginning of summer.

  • Epson Moviemate 25

When your 60” widescreen just isn’t cutting it anymore, step on up to the Epson Moviemate 25 ($1250). The unit includes a 1200 ANSI Lumen projector — capable of producing an 80” screen from 6.6’ away — inside its stylish white box, along with a CD/DVD player and speakers. Also included in the package is an 80” pull-up floor screen that rolls into a carrying case and a powered external subwoofer. It’s like a theatre on the go.
