Ofis Modular Living Units

Building on the structure they created for the top of Mount Kanin, Ofis Modular Living Units can be joined together to create a variety of structures. Their first use is as a temporary library at Slovenia's Ljubljana Castle, but their asymmetrical shape makes them suited for a variety of purposes. Most base units include beds and tables, while some offer kitchens and still others are nearly empty save for the light wood cladding that offsets the dark exteriors. Measuring just 4.5 meters long, 2.5 meters wide, and 2.7 meters high, they're easily transportable and suitable for use in a wide range of climates.

  • Casa BL

Set on a gentle slope in Póvoa de Varzim, Portugal, Casa BL uses its site to great effect. From the entrance, you can see a hint of the home's three floors, accessible from a central stairway that whisks guests quickly past the bedrooms on the second floor and on to the kitchen, dining, and living areas below. Clean white walls are complemented with warm wooden floors and minimal furnishings, while plentiful windows offer views to the outside. A folding glass wall connects the living room to a covered patio, with a sunken fire pit in the distance, accessible via a stone path.

  • Syncline House

Named after folds in stratified rock, the Syncline House sits atop just such a feature on the southern end of Halifax. Its concrete base, meant to extend the rock formation underneath, supports twin rectangular volumes clad in fiber cement panels. The taller of the two houses the public spaces, including the kitchen, living room, and gym, while the lower holds the sleeping quarters and office. A fully glazed central area connects the two, both of which are finished with white oak floors, white walls, and ocean-facing decks accessible from the living room and master bedroom, respectively.
