Tent House

Set in a clearing roughly 20 minutes from Australia's Sunshine Coast, the Tent House is a versatile dwelling that transitions from winter to summer with ease. It has three bedrooms set on either side of a central open space, home to the living, dining, and kitchen areas. Thanks to sliding walls and roof panels, the interior can be completely closed off and insulated in colder weather, then open up when the temperature calls for it. When open, the white of the tent canopy lightens up the dark structural "box" and concrete floors, while the lack of walls lets inhabitants enjoy views of the surrounding forest and garden.

  • Apple Park

Steve Jobs' final product announcement wasn't a new phone, computer, or gadget. It was a huge new campus for his beloved company. The newly-christened Apple Park will start welcoming employees this April, nearly six years after Jobs unveiled the plans to the Cupertino City Council. The main building — nicknamed the Spaceship thanks to its circular shape — was designed by Lord Norman Foster and is just part of the 175-acre complex. Also on site are a visitors center, a 100,000-square-foot fitness center, secure research and development facilities, two miles of walking paths, and over 9,000 trees. And one more thing: the Steve Jobs Theater, a 1,100-seat auditorium built to host future keynote events and topped by a 20-foot-tall glass cylinder, 165 feet in diameter, and situated on a hill so as to offer the best views of Steve's last creation.

  • White Shack

With a mid-century form and modern design, the White Shack isn't your average beach shack. The home caters to a family of surfers and their 1962 Thunderbird Convertible with a series of modular zones that can flip, expand, and rotate for their changing needs. This Australian surf retreat is comprised of three bedrooms, a bathroom, a master ensuite with private deck, and a kids play zone that doubles as a recording studio and wash house. Surrounded by glazed sliding doors, the main living area, consisting of an open kitchen, dining, and living room, expands out to a covered terrace for outdoor grilling and dining.
