Black Gems Townhouse

When a couple in Amsterdam wanted a place to house their two Jaguars, they called on Bureau Fraai. The garage couldn't simply store their vintage rides, it also needed to show them off. In response, the studio designed a private showroom to be placed in the backyard. The black volume holds both cars inside, stacking them on an automatic car lift. To highlight the owner's favorite model, a large steel plate-framed window acts as a display case that can be seen from inside the living room. Along with the garage space, Bureau Fraai also drafted a rooftop extension. The addition echoes the showroom with an ebony facade and steel plate-framed windows. The glazing to the front creates a desk space while the one in the rear opens to a terrace and garden. Internally, white walls and wooden built-ins offer a warm contrast to the stark exterior.
