Guided by its environment, the Crest Haus is a direct response to the dramatic landscapes and harsh climates of Park City, Utah. The family retreat is situated on the crest of Parley's Canyon, surrounded by views of the Uinta and the Oquirrh mountain ranges. It's comprised of a concrete volume submerged into a hillside with a cedar-clad box resting on top. As if it's moving with the prevailing winds, the cube breaks its geometric form and twists slightly, giving it a unique sculpted character. For sustainability, the home utilizes passive solar strategies with south-facing windows that bring in sunlight, while 14-inch think walls help store the heat. Solar panels on the roof provide the remaining energy needs to support net-positive living.
