Yasuhiro Yamashita of Atelier Tekuto has spent years transforming the villages of his native Amami Oshima. After restoring vacant structures back to their original state for his Denpaku Inns, the architect has expanded the brand with luxury accommodations. The DenPaku Beachfront Mijora Villas are built on the coast of the Japanese island on two separate plots for a total of 13 villas. As a modern homage to traditional Amamian architecture, each origami-like structure is composed of a concrete base topped with a folded, wooden roof. Their minimalist interiors feature a floor-to-ceiling window and a sheltered terrace that keep guests connected to the coastal views.
