Perched on a Los Angeles hillside, the Echo Park Bungalow is a mixture of vintage architecture and modern design. From the front, the home retains its simple 1920s form while the rear displays a contemporary new extension. Internally, the former crawl space was expanded to create a ground level that houses the main living area. A saw-tooth staircase joins the two floors where blonde wood trim and polished concrete floors create a minimal palette. Painted blue, the steel frame outlines a series of six cubes. This new addition is made up of two glazed areas that are extensions of interior spaces, with the remaining structure serving as a two-story covered terrace that allows for views of the outdoor garden.
