Widely know as an iconic Danish furniture designer, Jens Risom also heightened the reputation of modular construction with his prefab family beach house. The Jens Risom Block Island Retreat is a 1967 timber A-frame-esque structure located off the coast of Rhode Island and has remained largely hidden for several decades. A glazed north-facing wall frames in views of the ocean, while flooding the open interior with natural light. The 700-square-foot cottage stands nearly untouched, acting almost as a showroom with its vintage Knoll pieces and never-bever-seen prototypes. In honor of his 100th birthday, take a tour of the mid-century masterpiece he leaves behind for a new generation to enjoy.
