Located in Puerto Montt, Chile, the Maitenes House is a Patagonian shelter with volcano views. The two-story home sits on a hilltop, curving along the terrain to optimize incoming sunlight while minimizing exposure to the elements. Clad in corrugated steel panels, the upper level's opaque facade offers privacy for the sleeping quarters. The ground floor is left entirely transparent, constructed of pine and cypress pillars supporting floor-to-ceiling glazing. Its angled orientation takes advantage of the surrounding scenery, offering panoramic vistas of both Lake Llanquihue and the Calbuco Volcano.
