Music Box House

With a pianist and a percussionist living under the same roof, the Music Box House is all about the acoustics. The home is acoustically separated into two spaces — a piano studio and a rehearsal space. As a timpanist in the Oregon Symphony, the husband's rehearsal space is housed on the lower level, keeping the loud sounds of his instruments isolated from the rest of the house. The main floor consists of the piano studio where the wife can teach her students, as well as an open living room and outdoor area for recitals. The home doesn't just cater to its musical hosts. A rooftop deck also takes advantage of its impressive setting with views of the Portland cityscape, forest park, and Mt. St. Helens and Mt. Rainier in the distance.
