Outside House

Located on a three-hundred-year-old lava flow, the Outside House is open-area living at its best. The dwelling is comprised of two pavilions. Clad in a mixture of western red cedar and reflective film, the enclosed volume houses a bedroom. A large sliding window frames in views of the rising sun. The outdoor structure is free of walls and partitions, allowing it to be immersed in the Maui landscape. The slanted roof shelters a kitchen, concealed shower, and a deck where glimpses of the Pacific Ocean and the nearby island of Kahoolawe can be seen.
