RD House
Sited on Chile's Rinihue lake, the RD House is arranged to take advantage of the rural landscapes. The weekend retreat is comprised of two rectangular forms. While its ground floor runs parallel along the lakeshore to give every room a glimpse of the water, a volume containing the master bedroom is placed above and rotated nearly 90-degrees to afford the room privacy as well as full views of the Choshuenco Volcano. Their geometric shapes are clad in blackened timber to helps the structure fade into the verdant surroundings and allow them to remain the main focus. Internally, rough-hewn wood planks give the interior a rugged refinement that complements black steel windows and neutral furnishing. To keep living spaces connected to the outdoors, both levels extend out to expansive terraces overlooking the neighboring lake.
