Songhua Lake Ski Overlook
Perched on the slopes of a ski resort in China, the Songhua Lake Ski Overlook boosts the views of the pristine landscape. The structure floats above the hillside on a concrete base. An exterior clad in weathered cedar shingles fades into the Mongolian oak forest in the summer but emerges from the blankets of snow in the winter. Once inside, the cedar-lined interior fitted with built-in benches provides a warm refuge from the elements. Its triangular form opens up to scenery and along with portholes in the ceiling and floors, creates a new perspective of the surrounding mountains, lake, and forest.
