Torquay House

Set on the Victorian surf coast, the Torquay House uses its exterior facade to create a secluded sanctuary in a less-than private setting. A concrete barrier wraps around a central courtyard, protecting it from a pair of close-bordering neighbors. The open space allows northern light and views of the Australian wetlands into the interior through a double-height glazed wall. The stark facade flows into the interior floors and walls, but is warmed by a mix of timber batting and brass finishes. A series of rooftop gardens lend a lush element to each of the four bedrooms, as well as the lower courtyard.
