Surrounded by white pines and maples, Olson Kundig's Vermont Cabin established a compact family retreat in the expansive wilderness. The modest dwelling complements the pristine landscape with a simple palette of steel, timber, and concrete. Throughout the cabin, materials are left in their natural state to weather alongside the untouched scenery. With just a 750-square foot footprint, the home maximizes living space with a vertical layout. Intimate interiors are situated throughout three floors connected by a continuous steel and maple staircase. The lower section contains a garage, game room, bedroom, and a powder room. Above are two more bedrooms and a bathroom while the main living area occupies the highest level. Perching the common space on the top floor allows both the Green Mountains and the Worcester Range to act as a backdrop for family gatherings.
