After watching a friend try to operate an Austrian-made chimney lighter, George G. Blaisdell decided to create one of his own, borrowing the windproof chimney design but enclosing it in a small rectangular case with a hinged lid. Thus, in 1933, the Zippo was born. Not much different now than it was nearly 90 years ago, it has become a true American icon. Still made in Bradford, PA, it has a metal case, is easily refillable (we recommend Zippo Lighter Fuel for best performance), and comes with a lifetime guarantee.
