Brooklyn Bowl

Brooklyn Bowl

Beer, bowling, and rock n' roll. You'll find all that and more at the newly-opened Brooklyn Bowl. Located at 61 Wythe Ave. in Brooklyn, NY, this ultimate hang out spot sports a 16-lane bowling alley, a 600-capacity performance venue for concerts, and niceties like a custom-designed JBL Vertec sound system, a nine-screen high-definition digital video projection system overtop the lanes, cushy black Chesterfield couches, a bar that resembles a 19th century Coney Island shooting gallery serving up no less than 10 Brooklyn-brewed draughts, tables crafted from old bowling lanes, and an eclectic food menu created by local favorite Blue Ribbon. If The Dude were a non-broke New Yorker, this would be his hangout.

Raoul's

Raoul's

The only real testimonial that Raoul's needs is that it's been operational in SoHo, an area known for its ephemeral dining landscape, since the the mid-70s, when two brothers from Alsace, France mustered enough scratch to buy a small restaurant and setup shop. At the time, the brothers were so poor that they had to use all of the previous establishment's materials, a factor of little consequence when held against a stellar menu. Stand out dishes include: Crab Ravioli ($14), Organic Chicken ($24) and Steak au Poivre ($37). Call ahead and ask for a table in the garden room, a low key speakeasy sort of space requiring a brisk walk through the kitchen.

The Cub Room

The Cub Room

At the corner of Sullivan and Prince in SoHo sits The Cub Room, a subtly elegant restaurant noted for its romantic vibe. The eats skate between traditional and American Nouveau with all of its most promising dishes containing some sort of meat. Among them, the $32 Cub steak and the $27 Fennel Dusted Akami Tuna are particularly fine. That said, The Cub Room ain't cheap and it isn't for people who use the word "ain't" on any regular basis. Those people will have better luck at the adjacent Cub Cafe where entrees don't exceed $20 and the napkins aren't made out of money.
