Celestron SkyScout

Celestron SkyScout

Look to the stars with the Celestron SkyScout Personal Planetarium ($200). This handheld gadget locates and identifies over 6,000 stars, planets, and constellations. Just point to the sky and click, and the SkyScout's GPS technology finds what you're looking for, while the built-in celestial database provides scientific and historical information for each object.

  • World’s Greatest Flashlight

We're not sure if it completely lives up to its name, but the World’s Greatest Flashlight ($149) certainly makes a compelling case. It sports a halogen spotlight with the equivalent of 15 million candlepower and a rechargeable battery to run the spotlight for up to 11 hours, a swiveling 1W LED spotlight and soft area lamp, a built-in handle and stand, and a nylon carrying belt.

  • Bushnell BackTrack

If you're prone to getting lost, maybe it's time for a personal GPS device. The Bushnell BackTrack ($60) is a pocket-size, less-is-more gadget that provides a fool proof way for finding your way back to any location. Combining GPS technology and a digital compass, the weather resistant BackTrack features just two buttons and simplified user interface, and can store and find up to three locations. Once a location is recorded (car at the mall, hotel room in Vegas, etc.), all it takes is just the push of a button to navigate back to where you started.
