Netflix's new eight part documentary series Abstract: The Art of Design follows eight creative thinkers through their philosophy and creative process to the end product — from cars to photographs to shoes. Each episode is a free-standing documentary from a different director, and hopes to relieve the boredom found so often in other design documentaries: unintelligible conversations, long shots of a sculpture or building, and not much else. Abstract comes to Netflix on February 10, 2017.

So Pixar finally admitted that yes, indeed all of their films are connected within the same universe, hiding various easter eggs as clues in each film. These hints were so subtle, most of them weren't even noticeable for the average viewer. From Toy Story to the most recent release Finding Dory, this video rounds up all of the slyly placed signs that have been right in front of our eyes from the beginning.
Velasca's Filòm Loafers fit like a glove — and that's no play on words. Made from the innermost layer of leather and buffed to give them their signature velvety texture, these suede shoes are washed with pumice stone for a lived-in look and feel, and hand-constructed using a tubular construction and sewn together by an internal seam called a Blake stitch, which helps the shoe flex with the natural flexing of your feet. A bit Ivy and inherently Italian, the shape references traditional college-style loafers, which were low-cut with a 'biscotto' shape. Now, they're a democratic everyman silhouette — but this iteration is for those with a keen sense of style and an eye for quality craftsmanship.
Born on the gridiron, reborn for the streets — the Nike Field General returns, reshaped for a new era. Once worn by quarterbacks calling shots under Friday night lights, this latest drop revives that same fearless spirit in a silhouette built for city grit. Cloaked entirely in supple leather, the cacao-toned upper delivers a refined take on vintage toughness, while the Waffle sole keeps its '80s roots alive with every step. A padded collar, full cupsole stitch, and foam midsole lock in comfort and durability, making this a sneaker that doesn't just honor history—it commands it.

Quentin Tarantino, Stanley Kubrick, and Martin Scorsese all started off with low-budget features that they're tragically ashamed of. So the next time you're down about your latest piece of work, just remember there's no such thing as a film prodigy.
