After a staged attack kills the President and most of Congress, a theocracy called the Republic of Gilead installs a militaristic dictatorship in the United States. Women's rights are severely curtailed, and some are taken into bondage to produce offspring for the ruling class. Offred, played by Elisabeth Moss of Mad Men fame, is one of these reproductive "handmaids", and is forced into an illicit affair with the Commander, a high-ranking member of the ruling class. This dystopian look at the future comes to Hulu April 26, 2017.
