Hiram Sanford House

The historic Hiram Sanford House on Egypt Lane in East Hampton is a Cape Cod-style home built in 1740. Passed down through the generations, the house was dilapidated when a former entertainment executive bought the property in 217. Working with New York-based Ammor Architecture, and thanks to a unique zoning law in East Hampton, the owner had the original home renovated and a new, ultra-modern three-bedroom dwelling built on the same parcel. Situated on half an acre, the one-bedroom historic home has period-correct details and sits across from the new structure, built from eight modified shipping containers. A long glass pavilion in the new home puts Sanford House on full display and connects the kitchen and dining room. A staircase from Belgium and the kitchen were all prefabricated for the house. The home is now on the market, waiting for its next owner.
