7 Spring Backgammon Club
With origins dating back thousands of years, Backgammon is among the oldest board games in the world. Entrepreneur Yazan Assad is aiming to merge the common game with an elevated experience at the 7 Spring Backgammon Club in Nolita. Named for the game's most common roll, it has an open-to-the-public café and retail space in the front. Behind the double doors is a members-only space with a burgundy marble bar, tables built specifically to accommodate the game, players, and their drinks, and a generally lush ambiance. Programming ranges from play during the early evenings, from straightforward play to chouettes, while later in the evening the lights dim and a DJ starts spinning records. Beyond access and service that includes the host knowing their favorite drink and preferred board, members enjoy access to tournaments, strategy sessions, and prix fixe dinners catered by local standouts.
