Aerion AS3 Mach 4+ Supersonic Airliner
A typical flight from Los Angles to Tokyo takes about 12 hours. Florida-based Aerion is promising to cut that time down by around nine hours with their new supersonic airliner. The Mach 4+ commercial aircraft, the Aerion AS3, will have the ability to transport 50 passengers at a range of 7,000 nm. With the introduction of the jet, the company also aims to use technological advances to increase efficiency and reduce environmental impact. The company expanded its ongoing partnership with NASA's Langley Research Center earlier this year, intending to get a commercial flight in the Mach 3-5 range. The result could mean a future that sees flights between any two points on the planet within a few hours.
