Apple Digital ID
Apple's Wallet app has supported digital driver's licenses for several years. Now it's expanding with Digital ID, a passport stand-in for domestic travel. To create it, users scan the photo page of their physical passport, then read the chip embedded on the back page, take a few selfies, and it's ready to go. During the beta period, it will be accepted at TSA checkpoints at more than 250 airports in the U.S., with additional acceptance and use cases expected to roll out in the future. At the time, it cannot be used for international travel and border crossing in lieu of a U.S. passport.
