The Woodman's Treehouse

Treehouses aren't just for kids anymore. With its luxury amenities and forest setting, The Woodman's Treehouse is a whimsical retreat nestled in UK's Dorset woodlands. Resting in the branches of an old oak tree, the two-story getaway features a circular floor plan, centered around a rotating wood-burning stove that can be directed at the bedroom, living area, or kitchen. A large rear deck houses a wood-fire pizza oven, outdoor tree shower, and a stainless steel slide, while a spiral staircase leads to an upper deck with a sauna and hot tub. Taking advantage of the dramatic scenery, picture windows surround the perimeter, an opening in the floor gives views of the stream below, and glazing above the bed frames the oak canopy overhead.

  • Miramonti Hotel

Nestled on the side of a mountain in northern Italy, the Miramonti Hotel offers a mix of modern amenities and rich history. The original hotel opened in 1932, and has been rebuilt and remodeled several times over the decades to become the sleek, minimalist jewel you see today. A small team runs the place, which encompasses a range of rooms, lofts, and suites, as well multiple restaurants, a full-service spa, and a separate sauna that, like the rest of the property, offers tremendous Alpine views.

  • Skapet Mountain Cabins

Built for use by members of Norway's Stavanger Tourism Association, these Skapet Mountain Cabins are far from luxury accommodations. In fact, they're far from most everything. They're self-catering, with visitors expected to leave money to cover their stay as they leave, replenish the supplies of food and firewood, and clean up after themselves. On-site buildings include a main lodge, sleeping cabins, a toilet, and a sauna, with wood heating in the lodge, cabins, and sauna, two gas stoves in the shared kitchen, and solar panels to power the lighting. With straightforward geometric metric forms clad in rolled zinc and interiors clad primarily in wood, they're an instantly identifiable oasis amongst their rocky surroundings.
