Casio S100X Urushi Edition
The Casio S100X-JC1-U applies craftsmanship to calculators. Made from milled aluminum alloy in Japan, the body is sent to a Fukui lacquerware workshop that has operated since 1930. Artisan Ryuji Umeda spends a month on each unit applying raw urushi sap, using the traditional Tamenuri technique. This process creates a deep, glossy black finish with a subtle red gradient along the edges. The 12-digit FSTN LCD features a double-sided anti-reflective coating and navy-blue digits that resemble fountain pen ink on paper. Attention to detail extends from the process to the functionality. Scissor-mechanism keys with three-key rollover enable fast, precise data entry. Solar power, combined with a single CR2025 coin cell, ensures seven years of operation. Only 650 units made, each with a unique laser-engraved serial number.
