Dronamics Black Swan Unmanned Aircraft
Sending cargo via air is prohibitively expensive. Which is why nearly all domestic cargo travels some other way. Bulgaria-based Dronamics is out to change that with their Black Swan Unmanned Aircraft. This purpose-built drone is a fixed-wing aircraft with a single propeller and gas-powered Rotax engine, capable of carrying over 700 pounds of cargo over 1,500 miles. It can be monitored via satellite, takeoff and land at small unpaved airstrips, and is estimated to cut operational costs by half or more. A scale prototype has been testing for some time, and the company hopes to start customer trials with a full-size example by the end of 2019.
