El Cosmico 3D-Printed Hotel
Marfa has become an international art hub and is home to the iconic Prada Marfa installation and the Chinati and Judd Foundations. Visitors traveling to the Texas town will soon have a new place to hang their hats. The El Cosmico is a hotel concept designed by renowned architectural studio Bijarke Ingles and, once completed, will be the world's first 3D-printed hotel. Created in collaboration with proprietor Liz Lambert, the retreat will be located on 62 acres of desert and expand Lambert's existing campground compound. It'll consist of domed suites made with actual desert soil to appear as an extension of the surrounding landscape. Each one will be printed by Icon using Vulcan machines, requiring less time and waste, and will feature a skylight and a view of the Davis Mountains. The property will also offer an open-air bathhouse, resort-worthy infinity pool, and vacation homes available for purchase.
