Hawke's Bay Clifftop Golf Course
Tom Doak's clifftop masterpiece runs along finger-like ridges 500 feet above the South Pacific on a 6,000-acre working sheep and cattle station in Hawke's Bay, New Zealand. Ranked among Golf Digest's Top 20 courses in the world, the par-71, 7,147-yard layout opens with a rugged front nine cutting through deep ravines before the back nine follows the clifftops to the ocean's edge. The culminating 650-yard, par-5 15th narrows to 40 yards of fairway where the left edge drops more than 400 feet to the water. Getting there is part of the experience: after the gates, you drive 15 minutes through cattle pastures before the clubhouse comes into view.
