LEGO Smart Play System
Described by the company as their biggest innovation since the introduction of the Minifigure, the LEGO Smart Play System promises to bring interactivity to their brick-built sets. At the core is the Smart Brick, powered by a custom-built chip that monitors and controls various sensors and an on-board speaker for sound effects. It interacts with Smart Tags and Smart Minifigures to allow sets to come to life, all based on how they're being used. Notably, the system is said to be fully compatible with the current LEGO ecosystem. The technology will launch in a trio of new LEGO Star Wars, including Luke's Red Five X-Wing, Darth Vader's TIE Fighter, and the Throne Room Duel & A-Wing set; each will include a Smart Brick and at least one Smart Minifigure and Smart tag. The sets will be available for pre-order on January 9th and will drop on March 1st.
