Moxon Architects Quarry Studios
Moxon Architects Studio has completed its new studio in Scotland's Cairngorms National Park. Embedded in the natural terrain of a former quarry, the low-lying structure occupies an existing contour in the landscape. Its two volumes — a principal studio and café — are anchored to the site by a pair of concrete chimneys. Their mono-pitch roofs run parallel with the slope of the escarpment edge above, allowing for views of the treetops from the rooftop terrace. Exteriors are clad in a dark palette while contrasting interiors feature light wood and expansive glazing. A covered walkway joins the two spaces and also acts as an outdoor break space to enjoy the surrounding forest's birch, rowan, and aspen trees of Cairngorms National Park.
