Mr. Flower Fantastic's Orchid Show
The New York Botanical Garden's 23rd annual Orchid Show has a collaborator unlike any before it. Mr. Flower Fantastic is a self-taught Queens-born floral artist who works anonymously, wearing a respirator mask and gloves originally donned to manage a severe pollen allergy and now inseparable from his identity. He has transformed the Enid A. Haupt Conservatory into a floral portrait of New York City. Stoops, subway stations, laundromats, and yellow taxis, all rebuilt in orchids. Over 7,000 blooms cover everything from chain-link fences to a two-story brownstone dripping in pink and white moth orchids. Known for viral floral sneaker sculptures and collaborations with Nike, Louis Vuitton, and Adidas, this marks his first solo institutional exhibition and his first time building an entire world rather than individual pieces. On select evenings, Orchid Nights turns the conservatory into a 21+ block party with DJs, cocktails, and dancing among the blooms.
