Obumex Outside Showroom
The Staden-based company Obumex has mastered the art of creating sophisticated kitchens and refined custom interiors. So when the brand wanted to expand their head office and store, they needed something that was as inspiring as the spaces they create. They called upon Govaert & Vanhoutte Architects to create a showroom to house high-end furniture from designers like Christian Liaigre, B&B Italia, Promemoria, and Delcourt Collection. The new volume seamlessly extends from the existing building and bridges the gap between between the corporate structure and the residential area with a low profile and horizontal form. Its glass facade is a light, open contrast to the solid building, blurring the boundaries between the inside and the outdoors while the addition of concrete highlights pieces with a neutral background. To intensify the feeling of being outside, the transparent container is surrounded by a L-shaped terrace and a reflection pool.
