Once Upon a Time in Shaolin Listening Event
Anyone in Tasmania on or about June 15-24, 2024 has the opportunity for a once-in-a-lifetime experience — hearing the Wu-Tang Clan's seventh album, Once Upon a Time in Shaolin. Recorded in secret over six years between 2007 and 2013, only one copy of the double CD record was produced. That copy was stored in the vault of the Royal Mansour Hotel in Marrakech, Morocco, and auctioned in 2015 to Martin Shkreli. An agreement between the purchaser and the Wu-Tang Clan stipulated that the album could not be copied or otherwise distributed until 2103, although it can be played at listening parties. Seized by the US Justice Department in 2021, the album was then purchased by NFT collectors PleasrDAO for $4 million. A shortened album mix will be presented to the public for the first time at the Museum of Old and New Art in Hobart, Australia.
