Paul Newman's Big Red Rolex Daytona Watch

The late, great Paul Newman was a well-known lover of the Rolex Daytona, so much so that his name is forever linked with the model. While he wore several references during his lifetime, this "Big Red" Ref. 6263 is particularly noteworthy. Gifted to Newman by his wife Joanne Woodward in 1983 for their 25th wedding anniversary, it carries the inscription "Drive slowly Joanne", a reminder of the uneasiness Woodward felt every time Newman took to the track. Newman passed the timepiece on to his daughter, Clea Newman Soderlund, in 2008, and she is now offering it for auction via Phillips, with a portion of the proceeds going to charitable causes that were important to her parents.
