Percival Lafer MP-81 Sofa
Brazilian designer Percival Lafer's 1970 MP-81 sofa marries industrial production with artisanal craftsmanship. The 80-inch three-seater features tufted leather upholstery over foam-filled cushions, anchored by sculptural jatoba wood legs carved to echo organic branches. Lafer intentionally blended factory-made elements with handcrafted details, evident in the mechanically turned leg profiles and hand-carved solid jatoba buttons. The voluminous leather body creates visual tension against the branch-like supports. This example retains its original leather upholstery, a hallmark of Brazilian mid-century modernism.
