Ponant Le Commandant Charcot
Le Commandant Charcot was the first luxury passenger ship to reach the Geographic North Pole. Built to a Polar Class 2 rating, its hybrid electric LNG-powered hull can break through 8.5 feet of sea ice, sailing where no other luxury ship can follow. The 245 guests experience top-of-the-line suites and staterooms with private balconies, Diptyque amenities, a Bose speaker, and Alain Ducasse cuisine at the only Ducasse gastronomic restaurant at sea. A Snow Room, spa, indoor heated pool, and Blue Eye underwater lounge round out the amenities. Departing from Longyearbyen, Svalbard and pushing north through pack ice and drifting sea floes, North Pole expeditions run in alliance with The Explorers Club. There are opportunities for Zodiac landings, kayaking, snowshoeing, and encounters with Inuit communities. On the ship's historic first voyage to the North Pole of Inaccessibility, more than 620 miles from any landmass, there were 20 scientists conducting climate fieldwork aboard, in addition to those enjoying champagne on the observation deck. The North Pole has captivated explorers for centuries. This is how you get there in a dinner jacket.
