Prince's Vox HDC-77 Electric Guitar
Sotheby's will be auctioning off a guitar used by Prince on tour just before his death. This Vox HDC-77 is estimated to bring in up to $383,000 and was played by Prince on stage at the Montreux Jazz Festival, along with shows in Canada, London, and the US. Finished in "Blackburst", the HDC-77 uses semi-hollow body construction and two of Vox's CoAxe pickups that combine the sound of humbuckers and single coils. Along with the guitar, a Steinway grand piano from Studio 3 in the famous Abbey Road Studios will be auctioned. The studio purchased the piano in 1973 and has been played by a who's who of rock royalty, like Paul McCartney, Pink Floyd, Paul Weller, and Amy Winehouse. The event runs from August 29 to September 12.
