Quasar Khanh Chester Lounge Chair
Transparent PVC and chrome-plated steel define the Chester lounge chair, the inflatable icon from Quasar Khanh's 1968 Aerospace Collection. It bears the manufacturer's mark "Aerospace Quasar. Made in France." Dubbed a "mad scientist" by peers, Khanh's diverse work spanned ships, planes, architecture, cars, and furniture. While engineering Canada's Manicouagan 5 dam, he replaced toxic mercury and lead with compressed air, a breakthrough that inspired his inflatable furniture line. The Aerospace Collection became a milestone in furniture design, exhibited at Centre Pompidou, MoMA, Musée des Arts Décoratifs, and Milan's Triennale.
