Roy O. Allen House

An original partner at Skidmore Owings & Merrill, Roy O. Allen chose to build his own home like a slice of one of his firm's skyscrapers. Drawing inspiration from Mies van der Rohe's Barcelona Pavilion, the Roy O. Allen House is a 4,000-square-foot glass box, with views of the surrounding landscape broken only by the supporting steel beams. It recently underwent an extensive renovation by current owner Michael Brown, a senior vice president of interior design at RH. Going beyond a simple restoration, Brown modernized the home with an adjusted layout, reconfigured master suite with a slabbed calacatta verde bathroom and a custom Poliform walk-in closet from Italy, a brand-new king bedroom suite, and a solar-ready roof; the prior owner, who worked for Rolling Stone, had renovated the record room and outfitted the home with Sonos speakers throughout. A mid-century modern gem offering modern creature comforts, it's currently listed by Joanna Rizoulis and Amy Smith-Sroka of Sotheby's International Realty.
