Three Thousand Years of Longing
George Miller's eclectic style is on full display in his first film since 2015's Mad Max: Fury Road. Based on the short story "The Djinn in the Nightingale's Eye" by A.S. Byatt, Three Thousand Years of Longing finds Alithea on her way to Istanbul for a conference, where a side trip to a bazaar leads to her purchasing a strange bottle. Back home, Alithea opens it to find it holds a djinn, trapped for thousands of years, and eager to grant three wishes — which Alithea is loath to do. Starring Idris Elba and Tilda Swinton, Three Thousand Years of Longing comes only to theaters August 31, 2022.
