Vollebak Hemp and Black Algae T Shirt
The colour black is everywhere. From the ink in our pens to the cases on our phones. But every black thing you own is likely to be made from carbon black, a pigment that comes from petroleum. Futuristic clothing brand Vollebak is on the hunt for a new black, one that doesn't wreck the planet. Working with a US biomaterials startup, its new t-shirt is printed with black algae, grown in giant ponds. It's then printed onto hemp, a material sourced from the Himalayas in northern India, from a corporative of 500 farmers aiming to create a sustainable industry in sustainable fabrics. Water repellent, antibacterial and UV resistant, the Hemp and Black Algae T Shirt gets more comfortable with every wear. As the saying goes "hemp doesn't wear out, it wears in".
