Wirick House
Calvin Straub, noted USC professor and co-founder of Buff, Straub, & Hensman, is considered by many to be the "father of California post-and-beam architecture". Designed by Straub in 1958, the Wirick House is an encapsulation of the style. The three-bedroom Pasadena home, listed on the National Registry of Historic Places, is built around a double-height living and dining area with exposed beam work and full-height glazing. Remarkably original, it has a fireplace alcove by the kitchen, vintage appliances, cork flooring, original built-in furniture, and a secluded deck. Discreet recent updates include electrical, plumbing, and structural retrofitting, as well as an elevator to connect the various levels.
