Audi A1 Clubsport Quattro

Mixing a small, hatchback design with race track-ready specs, the Audi A1 Clubsport Quattro ($TBA) looks to be a blast. Powered by a five-cylinder turbocharged engine pumping out 503 hp, the Clubsport can rocket from 0-62 in just 3.7 seconds, and reach a governed top speed of 155 mph. Other features include a high-performance exhaust that outlets in front to the rear left wheel, a six-speed manual transmission, quattro permanent all-wheel drive, 19-inch alloy wheels with a turbine design, a carbon fiber-reinforced polymer roof with double-wing spoiler, and an interior bereft of anything except for gauges, rocker switches, a stabilizing crossbar where the back seat would be, and two lightweight bucket seats. As with all concepts, expect to see this beauty in showrooms... never.

The Mercedes-Benz A-Class Concept ($TBA) is the Tri-Star's newest compact concept, but doesn't skimp on the goodies — like a BlueEFFICIENCY 2.0L four-cylinder good for 210 hp, a dual-clutch transmission, a radar-based collision detection system, Adaptive Brake Assist, and museum-worthy looks. Here's to hoping they actually, you know, make the damn thing.

Soon up to challenge the Caddy's reign will be a slightly tweaked version of the 2012 BMW M5 Concept ($TBA). Powered by a high-revving V8 with M TwinPower Turbo Technology, the new M5 will crank out copious horsepower to its seven-speed, double-clutch transmission, with the Active M Differential sending power to each rear wheel independently based on traction, slip angle, and other considerations. Nürburgring tested, Uncrate approved.
